Deonka Drayton’s life had been on the upswing in the recent past. After recovering from the trauma of a serious car accident she had started to find her way in the world. She had also found love with Emily Addison, with whom she was raising a son who she is holding in this portrait. She had a dream of becoming a chef and was saving money to go to culinary school. Her father wanted the world to know that they forgave her shooter, partly as a result of thinking about his parents, and what we can’t control in our fate.
